August Update.

Weather has been its usual wacky self - first no rain, then too much, then back to no rain. Temperatures have also been up and down like a yoyo, but then, that's just what it is like here.

The River was productive after the last rains, but things quietened down as the river fell. Today however it is raining big style so hopefully the river will be up again tomorrow. Lochs, especially Arienas have all been fishing well, though on the hotter days the best sport was to be had in the mornings and evenings. Thankfully the loch has cooled down now and the bigger fish have moved out of the "Glory hole" where they go deep for cooler water.

Mr Crowley from Orpington was with me yesterday, and took to fly fishing like a natural. An experienced coarse fisher, he fished first the river where he caught his first ever sea trout, and in the afternoon I took him out in a boat where between us we got 6, 2 sea trout, and four lovely browns.

Not the best of pics, but here he is.

Today I took him out in the boat in what was first lovely weather. About 2 however this soon changed as a strong westerly brought a big sea, and lots of rain. Round Ardtornish bay fish, even mackerel were scarce. The same went for Inninmore, and Ardtornish Point. He did however get a few mackerel, some coalies, and a wee saith. Things improved later as we went West of the "New" pier, and fished on to the slate wreck. More mackerel, but more importantly some lovely Pollack.

Pity about the weather, but I hope he had a good time - I did - good to be in the company of a real Gentleman.

Other fishers with me this week have been Mr & Mrs Steele Wilson. No joy on the river, which admittedly was a bit low. Loch Tearnait was however more successful with some nice brownies - not sure if they enjoyed the walk up there though. Still I hope they had a good time.

Tomorrow I am hopeful that Mr Porteus and son will do well on the river - more news soon.
